Mystery Road Trip, Day 2

Today we drove 475 miles: from Spearfish, SD to Devils Tower National Monument (southwest of Hulett, WY) for some hiking--and then on to Denver, CO, where we spent the night (with stops along the way in Wright and Cheyenne, WY).

A kind stranger snapped a family pic of us before we started our hike around the tower.

The tower is an impressive geologic structure that looks different from each direction and is surrounded on all sides by impressive views of its environs.

After exploring the area of downtown Denver near our hotel, we ended up at Little India for supper: papadam and dipping sauces to start followed by fish saag, chicken tikka masala, and shrimp korma with jasmine rice, raita, and naan.

Mystery Road Trip, Day 1

Last Christmas we told the girls that we would take them this summer on a mystery road trip. Suzanna and Abigail work as camp counselors for Badlands Ministries and are on duty most of the summer . . . except for Independence Day week, when camp is not in session. So that determined when we would go on our road trip and how long it would last! Susan and I discussed travel options, and she planned the itinerary . . . and all we told the girls was when we would leave and return and what they should pack.

As soon as Suzanna and Abigail returned to Dickinson after the week's camp had ended, we packed up the vehicle and hit the road. We drove 204 miles to Spearfish, SD, where we spent the night.

Heading south out of Dickinson for parts unknown (to the girls, that is)!
