We had a great Thanksgiving with Susan's brother, Jerrett, and his family in Mandan, ND. We arrived early afternoon to appetizers: fresh fruit with an orange fruit dip; a cheese ball with two kinds of crackers; and "pheasant poppers" (pheasant hunted by Jerrett, topped with jalapeƱo peppers, wrapped in peppercorn bacon, and pan-fried). For the main meal, Jerrett smoked a turkey that he and Cheryl baked. They also made stuffed sweet potatoes with pecan and marshmallow streusel; green beans with onion, red pepper, and cashews; and dressing baked in the oven. We brought a couple bottles of wine to accompany the meal, and for dessert, Susan baked a pumpkin pie and an apple pie--her first time using homemade crusts, I believe (thank you, Paula Deen!). It was a delicious feast!

Cheryl tosses the beans.

I hold the dog. Mojo is a great dog with a penchant for licking out cranial crevices on anybody tolerant enough to let him get his limber canine tongue up into a nostril or down into an ear canal.
We were delighted to spend the day with family, of course, but especially pleased to be spending it with these particular family members due to their proximity to the Bismarck Municipal Airport. What's that, Faithful Reader? Wondering what I mean by that out-of-the-blue statement? Well, stay tuned to Pensive? No, Just Thinking in the coming days, and all will be made clear to you!
We were so glad that you could spend Thanksgiving with us, it was fun. Funny story about Mojo, a tow truck driver came to our house today (long story), and to keep Mojo from barking I was holding him. The driver then says, "I have a dog and cat calendar in the truck, I can see you are a cat lover." While he runs to his truck, Jerrett and I are laughing hysterically and calling for our new "kitty". Now the trick is to get "kitty" litter boxed trained.
