Sunday Musings

By virtue of Susan's current job at a parochial high school, she is on several mailing lists that result in her receiving items of a distinctively Catholic nature. One such gift-in-the-mail was a medal of the BVM (Blessed Virgin Mary), suitable for hanging from a rearview mirror or a cabinet handle or the like. Susan had it in the vehicle, having intended to give it to a Catholic friend of ours at a recent scrapbooking rendezvous, but she forgot to do so, and the BVM has been rattling around in our van ever since. Before leaving for church today, I moved the BVM to our dining room table and then herded the girls out to the garage. They asked Susan what I had put on the table, and she told them "a medal of Mary."

"Mary who?" they wondered.

"Jesus' mother," Susan said.

"Oh," reasoned Abigail, "Mary Christ." Well, why shouldn't she have the same "last name" as her son?

After church we participated in "family Sunday school" (refresh your memory here and here) and stuck around afterward to help Susan--the Sunday school director--clean up. Since virtually no one besides the Moberg children had done the Easter morning craft project a couple weeks ago, Susan made it the craft project for this morning, too. We spent a lot of time sticking tissue paper fragments onto clear contact paper and trimming them into cross shapes and punching holes into the tops and tying yarn through the holes for ease of hanging. Our family alone now has more than enough to share faux stained glass crosses with all our family members (that's a warning), so we stopped by the nursing home after leaving the church to deliver a couple to Susan's grandparents, Elmer and Laura. Elmer was sleeping, but we had a nice visit with Laura and gave her a cross for her room. (Here's one that I made:)

After that we came home for brunch: French toast soufflé with maple syrup, sausages, grapefruit, and tropical passion fruit juice--delicious. I'm listening to Jack Johnson (and you can, too) (oh, and I also recommend listening to the background music on chef Dave Lieberman's Web site--it reminds me of shopping at Pier 1 Iimports, for some reason) and catching you up, Curious Reader, on our Lutheran lives.

Which reminds me: The girls' church choir director invited all the children to perform for a "talent night" this past Wednesday, April 2. Hillary did a gymnastics routine, Abigail played a couple piano solos, and Suzanna played "Kum Ba Yah" on the piano to accompany Abigail's singing. Here are some pics:

  1. I anxiously await MY homemade cross. How many were made during the Sunday school gathering this time?
Final thought; The Moberg talent just keeps going and going. Kind of like the Energizer Bunny!

  2. What an amazingly heartening and active Sunday. I'm getting a complex considering how dull and boring my Sunday was with me lazing around and watching TV most of the day.

  3. I counted 24 children this Sunday (that includes the 5 children who already did this craft on Easter!) -- but I told them they could make more than one project, and I encouraged parents to make them too. If you're interested in the project yourself, I could probably send you the supplies :-)
