  1. Jason Bateman . . . now didn't he once play the lead in one of the Teen Wolf movies?

I read that HBO, as a network, accumulated more Emmy nods than any other network. Why do you think that is? Don't they kind of have a headstart what with the no-commercials and the (atleast) hour long programming?

Oh! And this could answer those questions, who votes/decides/appoints the winners?

  2. Wasn't Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf? Jason Bateman was in Teen Wolf Too in 1987. He was a good youth actor, but he's really an excellent comedic actor in Arrested Development. If you haven't seen it, YOU MUST WATCH IT!

Regarding HBO: Yes, they've been getting buttloads of Emmy nods in recent years. I think it's because, as a subscription network, they've already got a certain number of reliable audience members to count on, and they don't have to please any advertisers with their choice of programming. Thus, they can afford to be bold in putting on the air shows that are good, that draw good actors, and that get the attention of Emmy nominators.

A network would not be allowed to put on nudity or swearing as HBO does, and it would not choose to air potentially controversial programs because it might offend a certain demographic in the nationwide audience, lose ratings, lose advertisers, and lose revenue. HBO has a lot more freedom in that regard. (And, to be clear: I'm not saying that nudity and swearing = good programming; they are just elements of reality that HBO may choose to use but that networks may not--with the possible exception of NYPD Blue.)

Of course, I am not an HBO subscriber myself, so why should you believe anything I have to say about its programming?!

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is in charge of the Emmy Awards. You can find out the rules and procedures governing the nominating and awarding of Emmys here. You, Pablo, I would expect to see receiving a Tony Award first before branching out into TV for an Emmy and into movies for an Oscar.
