Hillary's Gourmet Friend

Hillary spent the night at a friend's house for a birthday party/sleepover.  Susan picked her up this morning in time to go to Sunday school and church, after which we returned home for dinner and had our first chance to talk to Hillary about how the party had gone.  She had a great time playing games and watching movies with her friends but was sad to have to leave this morning before her friend's mom had served breakfast (danged Sunday morning church obligations!).  "Oh?  Do you know what she was going to make for breakfast?"  Why, yes, Hillary did, in fact, know . . . because it was printed on the menu that the birthday girl's mom had made and distributed for the sleepover!  Hillary pulled out her copy of the menu and showed us what it said:

Supper
  • Emma's favorite spaghetti with meatballs
  • Vienna garlic toast
  • half-cooked cauliflower
  • fresh veggies with buttermilk ranch dressing
  • fantastic fruit
  • "dog slobber" (canned fruit punch)
  • birthday cake: triple chocolate hot fudge lava cake
Snacks
  • apple turkey creation (they decorated apples with toothpicks and marshmallows and raisins to look like turkeys)
  • dipped marshmallows
  • meat/cheese/cracker picks
  • buttered popcorn
  • chips and salsa or cheese dip
Breakfast
  • Mom's waffle sticks with caramel syrup or blueberry compote
  • cheesy scrambled eggs
  • sausage patties
  • fantastic fruit
Sounds pretty fancy for a ten-year-old's birthday party/sleepover!  (But I can see why Hillary wishes she could have stayed for breakfast.)

  1. Now our daughters are going to expect full-service menus at their parties, aren't they?

  2. Oh how neat! A plan of action for all the meals during the course of the sleepover. And they got to be part of it by doing crafty projects with some of it.
