Abigail's Choral Festival Performance!

Can you spot Abigail in this photo?  Bigger question: do you know what's going on in this photo?  Well, I'll tell you!

Abigail participated today in Surround the State in Song, a choral festival for fifth- and sixth-graders in ND.  It happens at four sites simultaneously; this year, those places were Grand Forks, Minot, Jamestown, and Dickinson.  Music teachers select their top singers, who gather with the other participants from the region to rehearse prior to the concert and then perform the same songs at concerts that start at the same time as the others across the state.  It's a cool idea and an honor for those students selected to participate.

The music teacher at Abigail's school opted not to participate; but Abigail's church choir director (also a music professor at the university) happened to be the conductor for the Dickinson group's performance today, and she asked Abigail to participate.  So Abigail attended rehearsals at the public high school this morning and early afternoon and then sang with the group at a concert at 4:00 P.M.  That explains the photo above.  And did you spot Abigail?  Here, I'll zoom in:

What an honor for her to be invited to sing with this choral group!  And she had a good time, too.  Along with last night's performance (remember?), she has gotten quite a bit of onstage experience recently!

  1. She's looking a lot like Suzanna....that was my first thought in the 1st picture! Neat idea to have the programs at the same time! Do they change cities each year? And how did this idea come to be?

  2. I don't know the history of this program, but Susan confirmed that the sites are selected on a rotating basis each year. It's the first year that I've heard of it, though.
